Department Summary
Information Services (IS) is the central information technology unit at the University of Oregon and provides wide ranging services to campus. Information Services consists of four major functional areas: Customer Experience, which serves as the key contact point for interactions with campus clients and customers; Applications & Middleware, which manages and supports applications, integration services, identity management and data management; Information Security, which helps protect virtual or physical information; and Technology Infrastructure, which provides administration and support for the software, hardware, and services needed to support the campus IT environment. Information Services also includes the Advanced Network Technology Center. IS works closely with the Network for Education and Research in Oregon.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of User Support Services (USS), the User Support Services Systems Administrator is responsible for architecture, administration, and maintenance of systems and infrastructure supported by USS. Incumbent provides tier 2 and 3 support for these systems and serves as an escalation point from other USS staff. Incumbent also provides direct customer support for unique systems in departments that USS supports.

The incumbent must participate in and lead team projects; and coordinate with other IT teams, administrators, faculty, and staff on shared projects. Therefore, he or she must communicate effectively, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with short timelines and fast approaching deadlines.

The incumbent often works independently from direct supervision. Therefore, he or she must supplement their knowledge with research and with vendor collaboration to resolve complex problems and will document decisions made in the support/resolution of all routine and non-routine problems. The decisions made in fulfilling the duties of this position may impact colleges, schools, departments, faculty, researchers, and staff with sensitive or valuable data, and their related projects.

Essential Personnel
This position may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Minimum Requirements
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting end-users within the field of Information Technology, particularly in higher education
• An understanding of, and experience with core Windows Server roles, including file sharing, Active Directory, and Group Policy
• An understanding of. And experience working with, supporting, and managing MacOS.
• An understanding of, and experience practicing information security, including best practices, policy implementation, and responding to security advisories
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining hosted software and applications, on both Windows and Linux hosts
• Experience with scripting, including PowerShell or Bash
• Solid understanding of computer networking principles.
• Experience participating in common project management concepts and practices.
• Experience with ITSM/ITIL concepts including Incident and Change Management
• Experience working in a team environment
