The incumbent will support the Center for the Study of the Conduct of Diplomacy within the School of Professional and Area Studies at FSI. As the primary training provider for the Department of State and the USG foreign affairs community, FSI prepares USG foreign affairs professionals to conduct U.S. diplomacy. The Center for the Study of the Conduct of Diplomacy (CSCD) works to help the Department of State become a Learning Organization by providing leadership support, reviews of practices and processes, support for training and operations, providing resources, and highlighting incentives. 1 FAM 295.10 establishes CSCD's mandate to strengthen the Department of State's institutional culture of learning, to prepare Policy Implementation Review (PIRs) (case studies) for training, and to support Lessons Learned exercises across the Department.

The Research Analyst position is interdisciplinary and requires the application of expert-level professional knowledge of and experience in the practice of diplomacy. Draft analytical case studies focusing on the tradecraft of diplomacy and conforming to existing guidelines. Expected rate of production would be a minimum of 6-10 case studies (= 2-3 Policy Implementation Reviews) annually.
Maintain diplomatic expertise by staying informed of current diplomatic efforts and Department of State goals.
Continuously research to enhance the usefulness and pertinence of CSCD's case studies.
