Department Summary
The University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD) is a community oriented and trust based policing agency within the University of Oregon. Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to maintain peace and public safety through enforcement of laws and traffic control and by providing emergency services on the University of Oregon owned and controlled properties. This position also requires officers to act as intermediaries and problem solvers within the university and surrounding community.

Police Officers have regular daily contact with all members of the University of Oregon campus community, students, faculty, staff, administrators, visitors, and members of the public, whilst carrying out law enforcement duties of providing a safe and secure campus.

Police Officers must exercise sound judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information. Police officers may encounter dangerous situations daily as their work involves enforcing laws and pursuing criminals on foot, bicycle, or in a vehicle. Occasionally, police officers will encounter highly dangerous individuals. These situations may require quickly determining if force is needed and how much is required to mitigate the threat or effect an arrest. Utilize appropriate charging venue for crimes and violations.

Work is reviewed regularly by the assigned Police Sergeant to ensure performance is efficient, safe and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.

Duties include, but are not limited to, positive engagement with the campus community, patrolling by vehicle, foot and bicycle, directing traffic, enforcing rules and regulations, issuing citations, making arrests, conducting investigations, interviews and surveillance activities.

Work Schedule
University of Oregon Police Officers must be able to work a variety of shifts, including but not limited to, days, swing, and graveyard. Police Officers must be able to work any day of the week, including but not limited to weekends and holidays. Some overtime may be required.

Essential Personnel
This is an Essential Personnel position that necessitates the employee make every reasonable effort to arrive at campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.

As Essential personnel, Police officers are required to respond after hours to emergencies and report to work for regular assigned shifts during campus closures.

Minimum Requirements
• Must be a United States citizen within 18 months of hire.
• Must be a minimum of 21 year of age.
• Must possess a High school diploma or equivalent.
• 45 quarter credit hours or 30 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university.
• One year of full time (40 hours per week) work experience (can be paid or volunteer or a combination of both) interacting with the public.
