Job Description: • Performs general lifeguard duties and maintains daily pool and facility operations. Minimum Current Certification Qualifications: • American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid – must be renewed (every 3 years) • American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer – renewed every 3 years • Current and valid certification copies must be presented to Pool Manager PRIOR to start of Swim Season and kept on file in the pool office.
Knowledge and Skills: • Thorough knowledge and application of Lifeguarding rescue techniques • Knowledge of principles and practices of facility rules, policies and procedures • Leadership qualities and public relations skills
General Duties: • Responsible for the safety of the patrons, enforces all policies, rules and regulations. • Assists in general care & cleaning of facility. • Reports any unsafe conditions to the pool manager immediately. • Assists in maintaining records, reports and information including any incidents or accidents, water chemistry, members and non-members inquiries. • Report to the Pool Manager and the PRCC Board. • Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Pool Manager or PRCC Board. • Responsible for finding own substitute if unable to work on a scheduled day. • Help Gate Guard open pool: open front gates, unlock office and open windows, unlock and open bathrooms, put backboard out, walk perimeter of pool to check for foreign objects, check pool chemicals (at opening, shift change and at closing). • Check skimmer pots, water level of pool, any foreign objects in pool. • Be prepared with: Proper Uniform, Life Buoy, Whistle and Mask. • Provide first aid if needed. • Must walk the perimeter of the pool at least twice per hour. • Rest period is 15 minutes at top of the hour on weekdays and bottom of the hour weekends/holidays. • Sit on lifeguard stand to observe pool, deck and benches. • Help Gate Guard close the pool: check chemicals and chlorine barrel, lock office, close windows, put toys, life buoy and backboard away, lock both bathrooms (which must be cleaned for the next day), empty trash, restock toiletries. • Scrub pool tiles with proper brush as needed. • Hose deck down as needed. • Straighten tables/chairs/umbrellas/lounge chairs. • Use multi-purpose spray and wipe down tables/chairs/lounge chairs. • Keep office clean and ensure pool is ready to open for the next day. • Maintain a friendly demeanor.
